Can love survive when your own identity and a whole country must fight for their existence?

Olya and Oleh are a young queer couple in Ukraine. When one of them is transitioning while Russia has started a fullblown war their relationship is put to a new kind of test. The war is trying to push people in narrow roles just when they are trying to break free from them.

I Rarely Wake Up Dreaming is an intimate and shaking love story about gender, desire, body and survival in the middle of war. The question is what is the meaning of manhood in a country that is fighting for its own identity – and what happens to love when the world around you demands you to define who you should be.

Among all uncertainties all that is left is probably the most radical act: the right to love, change and be yourself.
